What is a degree completion program?
A degree completion program allows you to complete your bachelor’s degree if you already have a certain number of credits in specific subject areas. Your previously earned credits are transferred to the UIC degree program and applied toward the total number of hours needed to earn the bachelor’s degree. You must complete the education requirements listed on the Admission Requirements page of this Web site prior to enrollment in the online UIC Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Who are the students enrolled in the RN to BSN online degree completion program?
This program is specifically for currently licensed registered nurses who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree to advance their career. Like you, your fellow students will be academically talented and motivated to achieve.
Who teaches the courses?

Are there any required campus visits?
No. All coursework is delivered entirely online. You will not need to travel to campus at any time.
When should I log in to the program?
You are not required to log in at any specific times or days of the week. You can complete your work any time of day you choose to do so as long as you meet any assignment deadlines established by your instructor(s).
How much time will I spend on the RN to BSN courses each week?
You can plan on spending approximately 15-25 hours each week on your RN to BSN studies.
How long does it take to complete the online RN to BSN online program?

How many credit hours do I need to complete in order to earn the UIC Bachelor of Science in Nursing?

Do I need a textbook for these courses?
Yes. Textbooks are available online through the UIC Bookstore and other vendors. Textbooks and materials for each term are available in the Student Resource Center several weeks prior to each start.
What kind of computer will I need for these courses?
You will be able to participate in the RN to BSN online courses using a Mac or PC. For more information, visit the Technical Requirements page of this Web site.
Will the online courses work on my smartphone or tablet?
Yes, students will be able to access the courses using a variety of mobile devices using the Blackboard Mobile ™ Learn application. However, you will still need a computer for a variety of Flash-enabled exercises.
Is this a “REAL” UIC degree? What will my diploma say?
Yes! The academic requirements for this degree are fully comparable to UIC’s on-campus program, and the degree conferred is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago, which will be stated on the diploma. The degree does not designate whether your studies were completed on-campus or online.
Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible (though not required) to walk in your cap and gown in an official UIC commencement ceremony with other College of Nursing graduates to receive your diploma.

What is a common route that students take to earn the 120+ credit hours required to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in conjunction with the online UIC BSN Degree Completion Program for RNs?
- Students often earn sufficient credit hours from nursing courses at a community college as part of an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) program or at a 4-year institution as part of a BSN program that will qualifies them to sit for the state RN licensure exam (You must have a current RN license to be admitted to the online UIC BSN Degree Completion Program for RNs).
- Students complete the prerequisites required for admission prior to enrolling in the RN to BSN online degree completion program.
- Students complete 30 credit hours of nursing coursework in the RN to BSN online degree completion program.
When should I apply?
Applications are accepted at any time during the year. Cohorts for this program start in January and August of each year. We recommend that your application and all required materials be received at least three weeks prior to the intended start of the program. Is the TOEFL required for international students?

Does this program qualify me for F-1 visa status?
Because this degree is completely online and does not require physical residency in the Chicago area, the RN to BSN program does NOT qualify students for an F-1 visa.
How do the RN to BSN online program courses work?
Courses include discussion and collaboration with fellow students and faculty. Via a web-based system (Blackboard), you’ll interact extensively with other nursing students and the instructor. You do not have to be online at a specific time, but you will need to coordinate your online schedule with some of your classmates for group projects.
How many RN to BSN online program courses can I take in one term?
The typical course load is one course per eight-week term. Each course is eight weeks in length except for one four-week summer course. You can complete your RN to BSN degree in 16 months if you choose to take courses in back-to-back terms. Any increase in course load must be discussed and approved by your UIC adviser.

Do I have to take the RN to BSN online program courses in a specific order?
Generally, yes. To view the preferred order of completion, visit the Program Structure page of this Web site. However, UIC understands that life events and other circumstances may interfere with your ability to follow the schedule exactly. Your UIC adviser will assist you with any necessary schedule adjustments.
TUITION AND FINANCIAL AID
What is the tuition for the RN to BSN online degree completion program?
- Students admitted prior to fall 2013: $18,510 for the entire degree ($617 per credit hour for 30 credit hours).
- Students admitted fall 2013 and later: $19,500 for the entire degree ($650 per credit hour for 30 credit hours).
- A one-time, non-refundable application fee of $50.
- Tuition and fees do not include text books and course materials. Textbooks are available online through the UIC Bookstore or other vendors. Textbooks and materials for each term are available in the Student Resource Center several weeks prior to the start date of each course.
As a student in the RN to BSN online degree completion program, am I eligible for scholarships or grants?
