To Members of the UIC Community:
The University of Illinois at Chicago’s Annual Security Report includes statistics for reported crimes that have occurred during the past three years on the Chicago, Peoria, and Rockford campuses, in off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the university, and on public property immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This report is provided as required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. In addition, this site contains the Annual Fire Safety Report as required by the Higher Education Opportunity Act. The report also includes information related to campus safety, reporting a crime, emergency procedures, policies, crime prevention programs, and resources.
The Annual Security Report is part of the University’s on-going effort to inform you about the safety programs and services available to the campus community. The UIC Police Department takes great pride in providing a wide range of quality law enforcement services to our faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the UIC campus. We are proud of our long standing tradition of community-based policing in partnership with members of our on and off-campus community.
As a result of these programs and services, we believe UIC to be one of the safest universities in the State of Illinois. However, as a community-based organization, we also recognize our dependence on you and hope you will assist us in Building a Safer Community by taking time to share your concerns and ideas. Your awareness of safety issues on campus, and your proactive efforts to keep yourself and others safe, can make a difference.
John W. Richardson, UIC Chief of Police
Every year in the Fall, the University is required to submit crime statistics to the U.S. Department of Education. Institutions must participate in the web-based data collection survey and disclose crime statistics by type, location, and year. For the UIC campus, the data is provided by the UIC Police, Campus Housing, and the Office of the Dean of Students. At the Rockford campus, the Director for Physical Plant, IT, and Facility Planning collects this information and at the Peoria campus, the data is provided by the Service Enterprise Manager for Physical Plant Operations.
The Campus Safety Security Administrator (CSSA) for UIC completes the survey for UIC (Chicago, Rockford, and Peoria). An electronic notice is sent to the campus community which includes the notification to individuals about the availability of the crime statistics and the link to the web-page containing the information. If you are unable to access the on-line Crime Statistics Report you may obtain a copy by contacting the Office of the Dean of Students, 3030 Student Services Building, Chicago campus or calling (312) 996-4857.
