Degrees, Academic Certificates, and Credit Non-Degree Programs

Degree Programs  •  Academic Certificate Programs  •  Credit Non-Degree Programs

The School of Public Health offers a variety of enrollment options. In addition to regular full-time enrollment, part-time enrollment (less than 9 semester hours) is available for students who have competing professional or personal responsibilities. Students can apply to one of 3 types of programs at the School of Public Health. These include: 1) Degree Programs, 2) Academic Certificate Programs, and 3) Credit Non-Degree programs.

Degree Programs

The School offers six degree programs which include the following:

Students also have the opportunity to apply into one of the following ten joint degree programs:

Academic Certificate Programs

The School offers seven online programs leading to a campus certificate, six of which are online. Students completing certificate coursework receive academic credit which may be applied toward a degree program if the student later pursues a degree. Successful completion of a certificate program, however, does not guarantee admission into a degree program at the School of Public Health. The seven certificate programs offered at the UIC School of Public Health are the following:

  • Certificate Program in Public Health Informatics
  • Certificate Program in Environmental Health Informatics
  • Basic Community Public Health Practice Certificate
  • Advanced Community Public Health Practice
  • Certificate in  Clinical Research Methods
  • Public Health Management
  • Public Health Practice Certificate at Rockford (on site in Rockford)

Information on these certificate programs can be found here and in the Student Handbook. For instructions on How to Apply to the School of Public Health Certificate Program, please click here.

NOTE: Applications to the "Non-degree Public Health" program are no longer
being accepted for Summer 2010.

Credit Non-Degree Programs

The UIC School of Public Health offers interested persons the opportunity to register for public health courses in a non-degree status. Twelve semester hours of course credits and letter grades earned by credit non-degree students may be transferred toward a degree program upon the student's acceptance as a degree candidate and with the consent of the academic division to which the student has been admitted. Credit non-degree students are accepted every semester. The number of credit non-degree seats available each term is limited. Students interested in applying as a non-degree student can apply to one of the following four credit non-degree options:

  • Non-degree Public Health
  • Non-degree Public Health: Public Health Informatics
  • Non-degree Masters of Healthcare Administration
  • Non-degree Public Health: Division of Community Health Sciences at Peoria

Admission is granted on a first come, first serve basis.  Students are strongly encouraged to apply early. Admission as a Credit Non-degree student does not guarantee admission to any of the degree granting programs of the School.  Non-degree applicants must apply through the University of Illinois at Chicago’s online application system. Applicants can access this system by going to the following website: http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/grad/apply_grad_degree.html.
