Participate in Research

Chatting about AIDS and Aging will offer two opportunities to participate in research: a short survey and a chat room focus group. We are interested in finding out where older Internet users go for AIDS information, who do they meet online and for what purposes, whether online contacts result in face to face meetings that involve sexual interaction, and any sexual practices in general that carry HIV risk.

Both activities will take place online. We are not yet enrolling subjects for either opportunity, but more information will be posted soon. If you would like to know more, please email us (mlupel1@uic.edu).

Survey

What is the survey about?

This survey gathers key information about the Internet activities of older users, including where they go for AIDS information, who they meet online and for what purposes, whether online contacts result in face to face meetings that involve sexual interaction, and any sexual practices in general that carry HIV risk.

Who is eligible to complete the survey?

Adults over 50.

What is required?

You will be asked to respond to an anonymous questionnaire about how you use the Internet. We will also ask questions about your risk factors for HIV.

What about confidentiality?

The survey is completely anonymous. We do not ask for or record an email address, name, or any other identifying information.

How do I start?

If you choose to participate, hit the continue button. You will then be directed to a consent document. After reading the document, please indicate that you understand by clicking "I Agree". You will then enter the survey. If you decide that you don't want to participate after reading the consent form, hit "Cancel" and you will be sent back to the home page of Chatting About AIDS and Aging.
