Alumni Career Contacts
Each year a new graduating class leaves the halls of the UIC SPH and head into the workforce.  In this competitive global market, our graduates need to be as prepared as best they can to stand out amongst a sea of talented public health job seekers – this is where alumni can have an impact.

Alumni Career Contacts (ACC) assist the UIC SPH Office of Career Services by serving as career advisors to current students.  Possible tasks include: cover letter and resume editing/critiquing, in-person and phone practice interviews, and general career advice.  The time commitment is different for each ACC and your involvement can be tailored to fit your available time commitment.

Alumni Recruitment Contacts
The UIC SPH wants to attract the best students from diverse disciplines, backgrounds, and interests.  This cannot be done without alumni help!  While students can compare schools on paper based on a multitude of statistics, it is a personal interaction that really gives a student a true understanding of a school – Alumni Recruitment Contacts can do this for the School of Public Health.  Once a student is admitted to the school the Office of Admissions will connect the student with an alumni contact.  The alumni contact’s role is to answer any questions the student may have about the school.

Health Careers Opportunity Program
The Health Careers Opportunity Program is calling for alumni volunteers to help increase awareness of public health and other health-related career options among Chicago Public School students. HCOP’s efforts are aimed at schools in the city’s West and South sides, which represent the highest percentage of health professions shortage areas in the state of Illinois.  Alumni play a large role by serving as guest presenters and speakers for HCOP’s Public Health Assemblies, Science Clubs and Saturday College.

Saturday College helps students, grades 6-12, increase their academic preparedness for standardized testing while also allowing them to explore various health-related careers through interaction with public health professionals.

The Science Club is comprised of 150 students from 10 participating high schools who meet once or twice a month throughout the academic year. Students develop leadership and research skills through interaction with public health professionals and UIC SPH faculty members, graduate students and alumni.

Public Health Assemblies introduce thousands of Chicago Public School students to the field of public health and its role in the prevention of diseases and protection of food, water and the environment.

Alumni volunteers are needed to speak at student assemblies, in 11 Public Health Partner schools, about their careers and how their work impacts the students, their schools, their families and their neighborhood. Training will be provided to all volunteers.
