Location

CADE is located in the School of Public Health–Psychiatric Institute (SPHPI) building, 1603 W. Taylor, Chicago. Our main offices are on the 10th floor of the SPHPI building, which is on the southwest corner of the intersection of Taylor Street and Ashland Avenue.

The SPHPI building is a large red brick and glass building on the eastern edge of UIC’s West Campus, close to the University of Illinois Medical Center, about two miles west of downtown Chicago.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From the north: Take the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) to the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) westbound and keep to the right; take the second exit from the Eisenhower Expressway, which is Ashland Avenue. Turn left on Ashland Avenue and head south 5 blocks to Taylor Street. Turn right on Taylor Street and you will see the SPHPI building immediately on your left.

From the west: Take the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) to the Ashland Avenue exit. Turn right on Ashland Avenue and head south 4 blocks to Taylor Street. Turn right on Taylor Street and you will see the SPHPI building immediately on your left.

From the east: Take Harrison Street west to Ashland Avenue. Turn left on Ashland Avenue and head south 3 blocks to Taylor Street. Turn right on Taylor Street and you will see the SPHPI building immediately on your left.

From the south: Take the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) and exit on Roosevelt Road (1200 south). Turn left at the top of the ramp and head west on Roosevelt Road to Ashland Avenue. Turn right on Ashland Avenue and go one block north. Turn left on Taylor Street and you will see the SPHPI building immediately on your left.

PARKING

Two-hour metered parking is available on Taylor Street and Paulina Street adjacent to the SPHPI building. Longer term pay parking is available on the north side of Taylor Street, across from the SPHPI building (access is on Paulina Street).

CYCLING

Cycling on Ashland Avenue is not recommended due to heavy motorized traffic. Damen Avenue, 4 blocks west of Ashland, has bike paths and provides a better alternative. Traveling East or West, Roosevelt Road has bike paths. There is a bike stand outside the SPHPI building. Bring a strong lock and chain. (Note: Most #9 buses on Ashland Avenue are equipped with bicycle carrying devices.)

MASS TRANSIT

CTA Subway (the “El”): the SPHPI building is 1 long block south from the Polk subway station on the Pink line. When exiting the Polk station, turn right and turn right at the first intersection (Paulina Street). Proceed down Paulina Street to the next intersection (Taylor Street): the SPHPI building will be diagonally across from you. (Approximate travel times: 55 minutes from O'Hare Airport; 15 minutes from downtown). Fare is $2.25.

CTA Bus: Bus #9 (Ashland Avenue) runs every 6-15 minutes north-south. Bus #37 (Sedgwick) travels from DePaul University, through River North and the edge of downtown, then cuts west and down Taylor Street, past the SPHPI building. Fare is $2.25.
