1999 Inventory of Managed Care Activities in the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration The Health Resources Administration is pleased to announce the release of a set of "Medicaid Pediatric Purchasing Specifications" for the care and treatment of children and adolescents. Developed by the Center for Health Services Research and Policy (CHSRP) at the George Washington University with funding from HRSA, these specifications provide options for language on key contracting issues as States prepare their purchasing agreements with managed care organizations. HRSA hopes that these technical assistance documents provide State Medicaid offices and other purchasers with sufficient information to tailor contracts to create high-quality, cost-effective systems of care. All provisions of these technical assistanceSpecifications are modular - that is, they can be used as a package or they can be broken out separately and integrated into other purchasing documents as the circumstances require. These and other specifications (e.g., HIV/AIDS, immunization) are posted on CHSRP's website (www.gwu.edu/~chsrp) for the benefit of interested State and local public health agencies and other potential users. State health officials and other interested parties will also receive a hard copy of the Specifications within the next month. Any comments or questions regarding these Specifications should be directed to CHSRP (202-530-2305), or HRSA's Center for Managed Care (301-443-1550). On May 24, the Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Managed Care Technical Assistance Center (MCTAC) began its pilot test of its technical assistance and training services in Region V (Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Minnesota). The new HRSA service is intended to meet the expressed needs of grantees, other safety net providers, and health professions education and training programs for up to date information and targeted state of the art technical assistance around issues of managed care. The MCTAC will provide:
