The Online Certificate in Clinical Research Methods at the University of Illinois at Chicago provides clinicians with essential research skills and is taught by experienced and well-funded faculty.

Become a Leader in Multi-Disciplinary Clinical Research
There is a growing need for clinical researchers who are able to translate clinical knowledge into practice to deliver high quality care. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has recognized this need and is increasing funding for clinical research. Job opportunities for clinical investigators are expected to increase rapidly in the future as demand for clinically trained health professionals who are familiar with the research skills required to lead multi-disciplinary research teams grows. UIC’s Clinical Research Methods (CRM) online certificate program is taught by experienced faculty and is designed to provide easily accessible training in research skills to these clinicians.

What is Required?
The CRM certificate is offered entirely online by experienced research faculty at a fully-accredited school of public health. The CRM certificate consists of five courses:

  • Contexts for Clinical Research
  • Clinical Research Methods I
  • Data Collection and Management for Clinical Research
  • Clinical Research Methods II
  • Evaluating Clinical Interventions

These online classes promote student and faculty interaction through online discussion groups and the use of virtual collaboration sessions. Course objectives are assessed by participation in discussion, quizzes and assignments. Each student will receive graduate credit for the classes successfully completed, which could be transferred toward the fulfillment of the UIC Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Sciences degree program.

Who Should Apply?
The Clinical Research Methods (CRM) certificate program is ideal for clinicians (doctors, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, physical and occupational therapists) wanting to acquire research skills enabling them to lead multi-disciplinary clinical and translational research teams. Clinicians wanting to enhance their research skills are most likely to benefit from this program. Anyone who wants to help answer the question of how best to care for patients should apply.

The CRM certificate program is one of a family of educational programs developed through the UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Science Research Education, Training, and Career Development Program.
