Opportunities for Giving

Through the generosity of UIC alumni and friends SPH students benefit from many endowed awards, scholarships, and fellowships.  These funds recognize student academic achievement, provide travel stipends to professional development conferences, support students from underrepresented communities in need of financial assistance, and support the upgrading of SPH computers.  In addition to your contribution to the Dean’s Annual Fund for Excellence consider making a gift in support of one of these funds.  Additionally, if you are interested in establishing a fund to provide support to SPH students please contact us

 

Dean’s Fund for Excellence

This discretionary fund provides resources for the highest priority needs of SPH. Your gift may be used to help enhance dollar amounts available for the support of endowments or scholarship awards. It may also help expand resources available to our students such as travel funds to present invited papers at professional meetings or improved study facilities within our buildings.


Alan W. Donaldson Endowment Fund

This award is presented annually to one or more SPH students in recognition of academic achievement and to provide stipends to students for travel expenses related to professional development activities such as presenting a paper at a conference or conducting research or program development in their area of study.


Amuwo Minority Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is presented annually to one SPH student who demonstrates a commitment to working on health issues within the Black and African-American communities.


Bonnie C. Minsky Award Endowment Fund

This award is presented annually to one or more SPH graduate students whose research and education interests relate to maternal and child health, women’s health, healthy aging, and nutrition.


Dean’s Fund for Student Support

This discretionary fund provides resources to directly aid our students in their educational pursuits. The Dean will make awards from this fund in the form of tuition scholarships, grants to support local, national and international research opportunities, and achievement awards.


Douglas Passaro International Endowment Award

This award is presented annually to one or more SPH graduate students to provide stipends that support hands-on field experiences in community health services or health-related programs in Latin America and Africa.


Epidemiology and Biostatistics Student Fund

This award is presented annually to one or more SPH students enrolled in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division for at least one year. Students must have financial need and have achieved at least a 4.5 Grade Point Average.


Estelle Goldstein Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is presented annually to one or more SPH graduate students with a demonstrated financial need and whose educational interests focus on issues surrounding aging and gerontology.


Linda St. Germain Memorial Reference Center Technology Endowment Fund

This fund provides for the acquisition and upgrading of computer hardware and software for the SPH reference center.


Loretta Pratt Lacey Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is presented annually to one or more African-American SPH doctoral students whose area of study focuses on women’s health issues in urban communities.


Michael Bruton Workplace Safety Endowment Fund

This fellowship is presented annually to a SPH graduate students enrolled in the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Division whose research interests focus on workplace safety.

Paul Q. Peterson Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is presented annually to one or more SPH graduate/professional students interested in the practical application of public health delivery and/or research.


Rodney Philip Musselman Educational Travel Endowment Fund

This fund provides opportunities for the professional growth of students enrolled in the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Division by supporting their attendance at public health meetings, symposiums, and conferences.


Scrimshaw Family Latino Health Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is presented annually to one or more SPH graduate students of Latino/Hispanic origin or descent whose area of study focuses on improving the health of the Latino/Hispanic population.


UIC School of Public Health Maternal and Child Health Fund

This discretionary fund supports the work of the Maternal and Child Health program housed in the Community Health Sciences Division at the UIC School of Public Health. Gifts to the fund will allow the MCH program to increase its student support, provide funds for research and professional development for students, staff and faculty, and further develop the many personal leadership programs for students and community partners.


Viron L. Diefenbach Award for Excellence in Student Research Endowment Fund

This award is presented annually to one or more SPH graduate students enrolled in the Health Policy and Administration Division in recognition of excellence in research.


William Haenszel Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is presented annually to one or more SPH students enrolled in the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division in recognition of excellence in research.
