Pre-Matriculation
Program (PMP) for Admitted Graduate/Professional Students
For disadvantaged students admitted to the UIC SPH, we provide an intensive
six-week preliminary education to strengthen their academic competitiveness.
It is our goal to see that all students in the Pre-Matriculation Program
will enroll at UIC SPH, maintain on-time graduation once they enter
and maintain a cumulative GPA of "B" or better.
The program has
the following components
Diagnostic
- conducted by the Academic Center of Excellence to determine students'
strengths, weaknesses, and needs to ensure on-time graduation.
Academic
- This involves five major areas, namely
- Introduction
to computer applications in public health
- Introduction

Services for Enrolled Public Health Students at UICSPH
Public Health Support Group: Retention Services for Public Health Students
Once enrolled at UICSPH, students have access to academic and non-academis support services designed to ensure retention and on-time graduation. Academic support includes support groups and buddy systems in biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental calculations and writing.
Financial Assistance
Organizes two special seminars for public health students per year, one in the fall and one in the spring on fellowships, research/graduate assistantship and scholarships for disadvantaged students, as well as other assistance available within and outside UICSPH.
Graduate Career Placement Services
Provides a comprehensive career program to UICSPH graduate students and alumni on the skills needed to create meaningful careers in Public Health.

CDC Postdoctoral Program
The Illinois Public Health Research Fellowship Program will recruit 12 postdoctoral trainees and four doctoral students to address issues faced by public health departments in urban, high-risk environments.
