in biological sciences or mathematics. Students

There are no specific course prerequisites.
Joint Degree Requirements
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for a limited number of students. At present, PhD students in epidemiology can be supported by teaching or research assistantships, traineeships, or university fellowships. Opportunities are available for master’s- and doctoral-level students within the division, throughout the School of Public Health, and within other UIC schools and divisions. Biostatistics
MPH Requirements
Some evidence of strong quantitative interest
and aptitude is required; calculus is not
required for the MPH degree.
MPH Course Prerequisites
Applicants to the MPH in quantitative
methods must have taken at least one course
in college algebra.
MS Requirements
Admission preference will be given to majors
in biological sciences or mathematics.
MS Course Prerequisites
At least one year of college calculus is
required (up to and including multiple integration),
and courses in linear algebra and computer
programming are recommended.
PhD Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the PhD
program, the applicant must hold a master’s
degree in biostatistics or statistics.
PhD Course Prerequisites
There are no specific course prerequisites
required.

Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for a limited number of students. At present, students in the biostatistics curriculum are supported either by teaching or research assistantships, traineeships, or university fellowships. Opportunities are available for assisting with one of the many research projects ongoing in the school or in the Biostatistical Consulting Laboratory, depending on statistical skills.
