PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The Environmental Health Informatics (EHI) certificate is intended to provide public and environmental health professionals with the skills to organize and analyze the information required to formulate comprehensive risk management frameworks for the protection of the environment and public health. All courses are taught by UIC School of Public Health faculty members, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA-Region V) staff as well as practicing environmental health professionals. To earn the certificate, students must complete 4 courses for a total of 14 credit hours. This certificate can be earned in approximately three semesters (two courses each in the fall and spring semester and one in the summer) or five semesters, which is the recommended duration (one course per semester).

The Environmental Health Informatics certificate program promotes student and faculty interaction through online discussion groups and the use of virtual collaboration sessions. EHI course objectives are assessed by participation in discussion, quizzes and assignments.

To earn the EHI certificate, students must maintain a 3.0 (out of 4.0) average for all certificate program courses.
