The
Occupational Health Nursing Program is based in the Department
of Public Health, Mental Health, and Administrative Nursing
in the University of Illinois College of Nursing. The Master
of Science Program prepares nurses for leadership and practitioner
roles in occupational health practice. The Master of Science
Program offers a training option in management and leadership
and a training option for occupational health nurse practitioners.
A Ph.D. program in occupational health nursing is also available
for nurses pursuing advanced research training. The Occupational
Health Nursing Program has seven faculty members with a wide
spectrum of academic, clinical, and occupational health practice
credentials and experience. The program has excellent contacts
with practicing occupational health nurses in our region who
provide trainees with training, research, and service opportunities.
The Occupational Health Nursing Program provides the leadership
for the Great Lakes Center's Fire Service Program which addresses
the special occupational health needs of firefighters. Additional
research interests of the faculty focus on ergonomics, musculoskeletal
disorders, and health promotion.
