WHO / PAHO Collaborating Center
The
Great Lakes Center is an active member of the global
network of WHO
Collaborating Centers for Occupational Health and
works to achieve the goals of the WHO
Declaration of Occupational Health for All. The
Great Lakes Center works with PAHO to implement the
Regional Plan for Workers' Health (English
version, Spanish
version).
The
Great Lakes Centers were designated as a World Health Organization
(WHO) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Coborating Centre
for Occupational and Environmental Health on August 15, 1995 by George
A.O. Alleyne, the Director of the Pan American Health Organization.
The terms of reference for our Center are as follows:
- Assist
the Pan American Health Organization's (PAHO) Workers'
Health Program in implementing its program in Central
and South America
- Assist
the newly independent states in eastern Europe in developing
and implementing their occupational and environmental
health programs
- Participate
actively in the global network of the WHO Collaborating
Centers for Occupational Health.
