Global Environmental & Occupational Health
Mission
Statement
The Center
for Global Environmental and Occupational Health exists
to promote global environmental and occupational health
consistent with our terms of reference as a WHO/PAHO Collaborating
Centre in Occupational and Environmental Health and a U.S. National
Institutes of Health Fogarty Center for International Research and
Training in Environmental and Occupational Health. The Center aims
to achieve this mission by:
- Building
partnerships with international academic, governmental,
and non-governmental environmental and occupational health
institutes and organizations
- Building the capacity of our partners to address environmental
and occupational health problems in their countries and regions
- Training scientists and professionals in our partner institutions
to be leaders in environmental and occupational health
- Exchanging and disseminating environmental and occupational health
information through international conferences, symposia, workshops,
and through the world wide web
- Conducting collaborative research aimed at advancing the science
of environmental and occupational health and at addressing
environmental and occupational health problems in our
partner countries and in the U.S.
- Promoting sound national,
regional, and global environmental and occupational health
policies that protect health and the environment, respect
worker rights, and promote sustainable economic development
- Working
with WHO and PAHO to achieve the goals of "Occupational
Health for All."
While
the Center works to address environmental and occupational health
problems worldwide, we devote special attention to addressing environmental
and occupational health problems in the Americas and in eastern Europe
and to addressing the needs of children and workers in high risk
occupations.
