Case Goals and Objectives

The overall goal of the Great Lakes Center for Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health case studies in pediatric toxicology is to make clinicians aware of the role of environmental toxicants in causing adverse health effects in children.

At the end of Case Two, the learner will:

1. Be able to identify environmental sources of organic and elemental mercury.
2. Be familiar with the risk factors for mercury exposure.
3. Be familiar with the clinical presentation and pathophysiology for the different forms of mercury poisoning.
4. Understand the treatment for mercury poisoning.
