STEP BY STEP STUDY OF MITIGATING ONE HOME

This activity draws upon information that you have learned in the first eleven units of this online training course. The object of this exercise is to use the information you have learned and apply it to a hypothetical situation.

First, assess the information you received over the telephone from the homeowner. Next, follow your phone call with a visual inspection. Based on the information you've collected, answer the questions in the three actvities below, and the seven questions on the "Inspection of Home" page. There is enough information to make several different decisions. You can assume that you are familiar with the area and past mitigation systems have shown homes in the area to have pea-gravel for sub-slab material.

Let's assume there is no problem, or if there is the homeowner wishes to proceed regardless.

1. Would you recommend Passive or Active radon reduction techniques? Please describe which techniques.

2. What if any additional information would you want at this point?

3. Based on the information above, could you give the homeowner a price to install a radon mitigation system assuming the information is correct? If not why? If yes, what kind of work would you recommend? What price range?

4. How many possible locations are there to run suction system piping and what are they?

5. Why is it that the dirt in the drawing looks like crumpled brown paper?
