Impact of ICHLD Health Partners Fellowship

"During the time that I was in the fellowship, I was learning about partnership development. In addition, the class visited East London, South Africa and conducted a conference on 'Collaborations and Partnerships.’ In particular our group focused on a problem solving approach that began with the establishment of a clear vision and mission, which then formed the basis for goals and objectives as well as the organizational development-its membership, leadership structure and team building. The specific objectives then led to the identification of strategies, action plan, and specific outcomes. I learned to appreciate that ongoing monitoring was critical.

Our group engaged in lectures, small group work, and role-play regarding various stages in partnerships development -from establishing to maintaining and sustaining relationships. Fellows shared their experiences, learning from each other and the expert faculty who themselves were engaged in collaborative work. Some of us seemed to seize upon every opportunity to network and develop relationships because we benefited from the interactions."
