Overview:
Midwest Center for Health Workforce Studies
The Midwest Center for Health Workforce Studies
(Center) was established in October 1998 through a cooperative agreement
between the Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health
Professions and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Housed in the Institute
for Health Research and Policy of the UIC School of Public Health,
the Center
continues to measure, evaluate and examine critical issues effecting selected
health professions in the nation, Midwest Region, and Illinois.
Under the cooperative agreement of 2005-2006, Center research will emphasize:
- measurement
and evaluation of the health workforce, with a particular focus on
secondary data quantitative analysis as well as qualitative
research methods to enhance the quality and value of the research
- health workforce studies on some states in HHS regions V (Illinois, Indiana,
Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio & Wisconsin) & VII (Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska & Kansas) and the nation
- access to care for underserved populations
- studies coincident with the objectives of Healthy People 2010
- research that is timely and relevant to health policy and the health care market

Center collaborates with key national, Midwest regional and Illinois agencies
that relate to the health professions. Some of our partners include:

care services, linkages with funders, and outside organizations,
and a forum to share ideas and publicize efforts.
- The Iowa Department of Public Health Center for Health Workforce Planning, which studies health care workforce issues to assure a viable, diverse health
workforce in Iowa.

those offering health career programs to students enrolled in community
colleges, colleges, universities, and health professional schools across
the state.
