HISTORY: The Maternal and Child Health Leadership Conference

In 1986, the Maternal and Child Health Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Public Health (UIC-SPH), under the direction of Naomi Morris, MD, MPH, MCH Program Director, began providing an annual Maternal and Child Health Leadership Conference for MCH professionals in DHHS Regions V and VII (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin). The purpose of this conference was—and continues to be—to expand the knowledge and leadership skills of MCH professionals in order to improve the health of women, children, and families. In 2002, participants will learn how to enhance their MCH-related programs by incorporating new concepts and skills into research action plans, policies, and services and identifying the most current strategies to meet the Healthy People 2010 objectives for MCH.
