MCH Advisory Committee

Purpose

To support faculty and staff of the Maternal and Child Health Program in achieving its mission: "to be a maternal and child health center for excellence that builds capacity in public health through science-based approaches that strengthen individuals, families, communities, and health service agencies."

Composition

The MCH Advisory Committee (MCH-AC) is composed of health and human service MCH professionals as well as from DHHS Regions V and VII, (link) public and private agencies, and the community. Professionals are multidisciplinary with backgrounds in public health, medicine, nursing, social work, nurtrition, health policy, epidemiology, and business. Responsibilities

• Attend the MCH-AC meeting every 12 months. Participate on one of four MCH-AC subcommittees
  1. Student Affairs/Recruitment
  2. Curriculum
  3. Community Services
  4. Scholarly Activities and Faculty Development
• Volunteer, if appropriate, to participate on the Fundraising ad hoc committee.
• Volunteer, if appropriate, to serve as a reviewer for MCH faculty, staff and student grant applications and manuscripts.

Additional Activities

• Assist in mentoring students either directly by acting as a preceptor or indirectly by linking students with others willing to serve as preceptors. Assist faculty and students in conducting research related to maternal and child health issues by either initiating and/or collaborating on the research project or facilitating access to research sites or data. Assist in the recruitment of students into the MPH and doctoral programs. Advocate for national and regional recognition of faculty and students.
• Participate in other activities as needed to accomplish the MCH program mission.
