MHA Topics Seminar Schedule

photo of Regy presenting ACHE to students The MHA Topics course (HPA 490) offers an opportunity for MHA students and others to learn about specific area of Healthcare Administration practice from professionals actively engaged in those fields. Seminars are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:00 P.M. in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Within each semester's schedule of 15 seminars there will be two multi-session specialty clusters to explore, with greater focus, important areas of professional practice.

Individual sessions will cover a wide variety of topics. Past sessions have covered: The basic skills of a healthcare manager, Human resource skills - recruitment and retention, Human resource skills – regulation and organization, Interpersonal relations and first impressions, Managing the full spectrum of healthcare services for a population of chronically mentally ill patients, Managing the full spectrum of healthcare services for a developmentally disabled population, Managing the full spectrum of healthcare services for underserved populations, Managing healthcare in the government sector, Managing acute healthcare in a rural setting, Managing acute healthcare in an inner city setting, Managing acute healthcare in a suburban setting, Patient Safety in every healthcare setting, Quality initiatives in Medical practice settings, Business integrity and ethics in management, Government Affairs, Medicaid and Managed Care, and Leading Specialty Hospitals.

Specialty clusters are currently being scheduled for Medical Group Practice Administration, Insurance and Managed Care Leadership, and Organizing Healthcare for the Aging Population. Other Cluster topics are being developed.
