What's special about this program?
We use the opportunities offered by the Chicago metropolitan area to educate healthcare leaders for the future. The MHA Program provides practical tools to use to become an effective executive as well as the theoretical understanding to provide leadership in a rapidly changing healthcare environment. Our students experience the unique challenges and opportunities facing healthcare services in Chicago and the Midwest, while developing an understanding of healthcare systems at the national level. We have a well defined track for "returning" mid-career managers. Our faculty are currently involved in leading healthcare organizations. Faculty members contribute their direct experience of working in large hospital systems, community clinics, public health systems, research institutions, and other healthcare organizations to the MHA Program. We can help you make the connection between the classroom and the workplace. We will give you the opportunity to participate in Chicago's and Illinois' complex healthcare industry through the MHA Preceptorship Program. In the MHA Preceptorship Program senior Chicago metropolitan area and Illinois/Indiana healthcare leaders will mentor MHA candidates throughout their studies in the program. The MHA preceptorship begins in the first semester and includes summer experience to provide an opportunity to work with successful executives in healthcare institutions that provide firsthand exposure to management, leadership, and governance for the graduate student. The program offers educational placement in medical centers, hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, professional associations, and other settings selected to help students integrate knowledge acquired from course work, explore its functional application in a real-world context, and further their specific career interests. The totality of the preceptorship experience culminates in a capstone project that enables students to demonstrate skills and knowledge in resolving a key strategic management issue in an actual health service organization. |
