Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences Director HonoredDr. Rosemary Sokas MD, MOH, professor and director of the UIC School of Public Health, Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, has been awarded the Alice Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement, by the Occupational Health and Safety Section of the American Public Health Association.
Dr. Sokas has had an exemplary academic career distinguished by her focus on advancing worker’s role in occupational health research. In addition to teaching and leading a post-doctoral traineeship, Dr. Sokas conducts extramurally funded research of training intervention effectiveness among construction workers and home health workers.
The Occupational Health and Safety Section of the American Public Health Association is comprised of professionals working in the area of workplace health and safety. The American Public Health Association, founded in 1872, is the oldest and largest public health organization in the world.
Dr. Sokas and her fellow awardees will be recognized at APHA’s OHS Section’s 15th Annual Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, November 6 at the Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC.
