Four UIC public health students will be selected as Public Health Practice Scholars (Passaro Scholars) for 2005-06. Scholars will be assigned to an entity serving the health needs of the people of Illinois. Students may use the experience to fulfill practicum or internship requirements; and will work on a project or projects during the 2005-06 academic year.
Selected Scholars will receive a research assistantship @ 33% time, which includes a tuition waiver and small stipend.
Deliverable
Project/practicum reports from each student participating. A brief assessment from the mentor(s) at the practicum site; due at the end of the project period (May 15, 2006).
Scholars will present their projects at the annual Illinois Public Health Association meeting and at the UIC SPH annual research day.
Eligibility
Applicant must be a current UIC SPH student in good standing.
Nominating Process
Faculty are urged to encourage eligible students to apply. Students may also initiate the application process.
Application Process and Deadline
The application package should contain the following:
• A letter highlighting the applicant’s qualifications in academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
• A vita or resume.
• Two letters of recommendation from SPH faculty members (for continuing students). 2005 matriculants may submit letters of recommendation written to support their SPH application in lieu of letters from SPH faculty.
The application package should be submitted to Ms. Fausta Aceves, Office of the Dean, Room 1113 SPHPI. The application deadline is August 31, 2005.
