3E PUBLIC MESSAGE: PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIAL

Now that you are clear on what you do and don't know, you must prepare a message for the public to make them aware of this potential outbreak. Although it is early, the press has already phoned, asking for a statement.

Conventional wisdom (and careful research), suggest that you choose three key points that you want to make. Review the list of information that you do know. From that list, select the three key points you feel are most important to communicate to the public.

Facts you know Your 3 key points
The number of people who are ill.
The part of the body that is involved.
The seriousness of the illness.
The health department is carrying out an outbreak investigation.
The laboratory is conducting tests to determine exactly what is causing this disease.
The local laboratory is working with the State Health Department laboratory to identify the cause.
The agencies/groups currently working on this outbreak.
