Overview - PH 463: Preparedness Planning

After completing PH 463, learners will be proficient in planning for disasters and public health emergencies, including bioterrorism events and threats. Key aspects of this competency expectation build on the general public health preparedness and response competencies in PH 461 and include:

• generating a public health bioterrorism response plan that is integrated with the agency's overall public health emergency response plan
• applying tools commonly used to assess community and public health agency preparedness for public health emergencies
• describing important linkages between an overall emergency response plan and an overall public health emergency response plan
• describing what surge capacity is and how it is addressed in public health emergency response plans
• identifying important elements of public health statutes that must be assessed in developing public health emergency response plans
• listing community stakeholders necessary for assuring needed resources in public health emergencies
• identifying tools and activities common for different public health emergency responses
• describing factors contributing to the success or failure of developing public health emergency response plans
