Overview - PH 467: Emergency Risk Communication
After completing PH 467, learners will be proficient in applying risk communication principles and tools to
public health emergencies, including bioterrorism events and threats. Key aspects of this
competency expectation include:
- delineating public information roles and responsibilities at the
community, state and federal levels of governmental and of non-governmental organizations
who respond to public health emergencies
- describing steps to integrate public information strategies into a
community or organizational emergency response plan
- utilizing public information plans, protocols and materials in a
public health emergency event
- effectively communicating risk to the public by applying Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) crisis and risk communication check lists to
prepare for and execute core public information responsibilities related to pubic health
emergencies
