“The role of biostatistics is to help the biomedical scientist manage the risk of error. The science of biostatistics tells us how to control the risks of having a false negative or a false positive study.”

— C.A. Beam, 2006

What We Do

The mission of the Quantitative Biomedical Sciences Program (QBSP) is to provide biostatistical, epidemiological, and data management support throughout the research process and particularly at the proposal-writing stage. The QBSP facilitates the development of new quantitative methodologies in biomedical sciences, including the fields of bioinformatics and decision sciences as well as biostatistics and epidemiology. A primary mission of the QBSP faculty is to contribute as scientific collaborators and principal investigators on extramurally funded research. Our staff strive to provide high-quality consultative services in a timely fashion.

The QBSP integrates and addresses gaps in the quantitative methodological expertise on campus that is needed to conduct biomedical research. We support the Health Science Deans’ Council goal of increasing the number of externally funded biomedical research projects undertaken at UIC. Faculty from all health science campus units are encouraged to avail themselves of our resources.
