2008-2009 Officers:
President – Kendall Ziegler, DrPH student

Hi, I am a second year Master of Public Health student in the Community Health Sciences division, concentrating in Maternal and Child Health. I grew up in Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science and a minor in Gender and Health Studies. I am particularly interested in the health needs of adolescents in urban and suburban areas. I enjoy traveling, spending time with friends and family, and going to the beach. I listen to all types of music, but I love country. My favorite TV shows are The Office, Project Runway, and Law and Order: SVU. I’m looking forward to another great year at UIC SPH!
Vice President – Heather Limper, Epidemiology, MPH student

Hi, I'm Heather Limper and I am a second year MPH Epidemiology student with an interest in infectious diseases and HIV. I graduated from the University of Georgia in 2008 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology on a pre-medicine track with an English concentration. I gained an interest in public health while studying in Croatia and observing the lack of resources, from information to access to health care, available for the public to lead healthy lifestyles. I look forward to a great year with PHSA and encourage you all to get involved!
Treasurer– Suraj Panthi, EOHS, MS student

Suraj is a second year MS student in EOHS who emerges from Nepal. He is a 2008 Biochemistry graduate of the college of St. Scholastica, Duluth MN. Chemistry of air and water pollution is the subject of his current interest. His research project at UIC involves the analysis of Pool waters for Cyanuric Acid which is a part of the CHEERS Project. Traveling, networking, interrupting injustice and the art of living have always been his passion. He chose to pursue Public Health studies because of its applications in bigger settings that just match his interests. Prior to his arrival to Chicago, he lived on campus in Duluth, MN where he worked as a Residential Advisor, Chemistry TA, Computer Help Desk TA and a Peer Minister. He is thankful to be a part of PHSA and is looking forward to working closely with fellow students.
Secretary – Hua Wei, EOHS, PhD student

I am a first year MPH student in the division of Epidemiology. I am an alumnus of the University of Illinois at Chicago where I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Sociology. I am very excited to be a part of the Public Health Student Association (PHSA). I enjoy representing the student body at the School of Public Health, and I want to ensure that all of the students’ voices are being heard and changes are being implemented accordingly. I hope the PHSA will be an avenue where students and faculties interrelate and students of various divisions connect. I am very enthusiastic about the activities and events the PHSA will be hosting for the 2008-2009 school year, and I am sure they will exceed your expectations!
