Society for Women in Public Health Leadership
Mission
The Society for Women in Public Health will serve as a forum for students, alumni and faculty to unite and discuss the unique issues concerning and affecting women’s professional standing, leadership ability, and educational progress. We believe that by gathering together we can share information that will make a difference in our lives and also the lives of those women connected to us through the classroom, our personal and professional experiences, and the community.
Purpose
As individuals we are committed to taking a principal and responsible role in generating change, supporting women’s professional growth and leadership initiatives, and creating positive experiences and educational didactics for members and women in the community. An encouraging, communicative and compassionate forum is necessary to build on the classroom experience and help translate the skills we learn into real-world career advancement, networking and enhancement of leadership abilities.
Activities
Leadership Skills
- Through support, words and action we will create a powerful forum for discussion of the unique challenges facing women as professionals in health professions.
- We will inculcate, share and practice the leadership abilities essential to motivate change and progress, and to establish women in public health at the forefront of public health discussions, disciplines and initiatives.
Professional Development
- We will use university and community resources to help women develop and grow educationally, professionally and personally.
- We will create strong and lasting alliances with other motivated and concerned individuals in public health across all public health disciplines.
- We will recognize, celebrate and cultivate the abilities of not only society members but
also members of the community at large.
Involvement
- Through advocacy, volunteerism and collaboration we will promote awareness of women’s health issues and promulgate policy and community change to ensure a healthier and safer environment for women across all racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
