Interdepartmental Concentrations
The Interdepartmental Graduate Concentration in Survey Research Methodology was established through the sponsorship of the following UIC academic units:
- Community Health Sciences Division, School of Public Health
- Political Science Department, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
- Public Administration Department, College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs
- Sociology Department, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Concentration Requirements: Minimum of 14 semester hours, consisting of at least 7 sh of approved core courses and electives.
Applicant Details: Students who complete the Concentration in Survey Research Methodology will be prepared to apply a variety of survey research methodologies to address problems in basic and applied research.
Applying to Concentration:
- An applicant must be admitted or enrolled as a student in a UIC graduate degree program, master’s or doctoral, in a GCSRM participating academic unit.
- Applicants must submit a complete, original, hard copy of the GCSRM application to one of the GCSRM co-directors.
- Application to the GCSRM may be submitted at any time while a student is admitted or enrolled as a student in a UIC graduate degree program in a GCSRM participating academic unit.

The Interdepartmental Graduate Concentration in Women's Health is co-sponsored by the UIC College of Nursing, the School of Public Health, and the Gender and Women's Studies program. The Concentration is housed within the College of Nursing.
Concentration Requirements: Minimum 12 semester hours.
Applicant Details: This Concentration is primarily beneficial for students who will pursue careers in Women’s Health administration, research, health care, teaching, and program and policy development. It will provide graduate students with scientifically grounded, state of the art knowledge and skills in the multidisciplinary field of Women’s Health.
Applying to Concentration:
- Students must formally elect the Concentration by discussing their intent with their primary advisor in their home department, by submitting a plan of study to the Director of the Concentration, and by informing their home department. Students should submit a 500 word proposal indicating their interest in the Concentration, what they hope to learn, the relation of the Concentration to their future career goals, and their anticipated course of study in the Concentration.
- Students must select a Concentration advisor from among the Designated and Affiliated Faculty in the Interdepartmental Graduate Concentration in Women’s Health. The Concentration advisor assists students in developing a plan of study for the Concentration.

The School of Public Health is a participating department in the graduate concentration in Gender and Women's Studies offered by the Gender and Women's Studies Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Once admitted to SPH, students may apply to the GWS Program for admission to the concentration.
Concentration Requirements: Minimum of 16 semester hours.
Applicant Details: GWS courses will allow students to critically examine issues of women and gender, as well as their complex intersections with race, class, ethnicity, and sexual identity; providing a rich, interdisciplinary focus.
Applying to Concentration:
- Upon being admitted to SPH, students must apply to the GWS program for admission to the concentration. The concentration application can be found here.
