Recycling @ UIC

Basics of the Program

What can you recycle at UIC? It depends a little bit on which system is active in your building - UIC Recycling (and Auxillary) or Green Tote. Consult our Buildings List to see what type of recycling service is available in your building.

UIC Recycling & Auxillary Buildings

The UIC Recycling system containers are the gray, 15 gal. bins that you see in most campus buildings. The bins themselves may or may not be labeled, but the lid will determine what you can put in each bin. In UIC Recycling buildings, you can recycle paper, cardboard, bottles and cans. The list below lists the various items that may be recycled in each bin. Auxillary buildings, while using different types of bins, accept the same materials.

Green-Tote Buildings

In some buildings the UIC Recycling system has not yet been incorporated, but paper and cardboard is still being recycled, either in smaller bins, or in large, green, 90 gal. bins. The list above for recyclable paper items is also valid for these buildings.
