Transportation
Encouraging alternative modes of transportation is one way that UIC contributes to the goal of achieving a sustainable campus. Supporting alternative transportation includes developing partnerships both on and off campus, educating, and listening to what the campus community has to say about transportation.
Use of alternative modes of transportation improves air quality, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, improves public health, reduces dependency on fossil fuels, and saves the commuter money.
UIC Transportation Options Internship
The Office of Sustainability supports and sponsors the UIC Transportation Options Internship. This internship is a partnership between the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), and is part of a larger project that includes interns from DePaul University, Loyola University, Northwestern University and the University of Chicago. The goal of the internship is to promote walking, biking and transit use on campus in addition to coordinating transportation-related projects through the Office of Sustainability.
