On June 20, at 11:15 a.m., a UIC faculty member was the victim of an off-campus strong-arm robbery at 330 S. Morgan St. (approximate crime location mapped) The victim reported he was walking when he was approached by two juveniles, one male and one female. The male offender grabbed the victim's iPad and pushed him to the ground, and both offenders then fled north on Tilden Street. A witness chased the offenders and caught the male offender, who was carrying the iPad. The witness was able to retrieve the property as the offender made his escape. Both offenders fled on foot to the I-290 Expressway. There were no reported injuries.

The UIC Police/Chicago Police Department Joint Robbery Task Force and CPD Central Area Detectives will conduct the follow-up investigation.

The offenders are described as follows:

  1. Black male, 14-16 years old, 6-0 tall, 140 pounds, with dark complexion, black hair, dreadlocks, and wearing a red shirt.
  2. Black female, 15-18 years old, 5-6 in height, 110 pounds, with medium complexion, black hair in a pony tail, and wearing a white top.

UIC Police offer the following security tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings. Use all five of your senses to be alert for danger, and when walking alone, don't wear headphones or earbuds.
  • Try to travel in groups when possible, particularly after dark.
  • Use well-lit walkways.
  • On campus, look for the location of the nearest emergency call box (there are more than 1,500 across campus).
  • The emergency number for UIC Police is 5-5555 or 312-355-5555, which should be set on speed-dial on your cell phone.
  • Report crime promptly to police.

Residence Hall Safety tips:

  • Call UIC Police immediately for all emergencies at 312-355-5555
  • Call R.A. and R.D. only after notifying police
  • Always lock doors/windows in residence halls
  • Keep blinds closed
  • Report any suspicious activity/persons to UIC Police
