The Drug Information Group at the University of Illinois is an academic and consultative unit of the College of Pharmacy and provides clinical support to organizations in need. The goals of the Group are to provide evidence-based medical information, to enhance the skills of health care professionals through training sessions, and to serve as a resource for health care professionals involved in patient care.
The UIC PGY2 residency in drug information is a 12-month program designed to enhance clinical skills and to develop expertise in:
- efficient retrieval of drug information
- online database searching
- critical analysis of drug literature
- scientific writing
- statistical analysis
- didactic and experiential teaching
The resident will also gain experience in the operation and management of a drug information group as well as project management. Elective experiences are available in industry, managed care, poison information, pharmacoeconomics, and research. A unique opportunity exists for the resident to participate in the development of monographs and prior authorization criteria for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.
The resident will participate in the in-house clinical on-call program, the resident seminar series, resident report, journal club, research seminar series and the UIC resident teaching certificate program. The resident will be required to initiate and conduct a drug information-related research project. Rotations may be individualized according to the goals and qualifications of the applicant.
